Skysisters circa 1961

Skysisters reflects the huge contribution female jumpers have made to the sport over the years.

Most of us would probably date the organisation's origins to the early years of this decade, when Australian Skydiver magazine editor Susie McEvoy first gave it public prominence around 2005.

But South Australian female jumpers were making their mark very early on in the sport's history, as this photo from about 1961 demonstrates.

I'm still tracking down more details which will be updated soon, but this photo, taken by a photographer for Adelaide's daily newspaper The Advertiser, shows a few of the pioneering females of the sport getting set for another leap.

You have to love the glasses!
